Alex Galván, MSW, LSW, (she/they)
Through my experience as a Chicana from the Southwest Side of Chicago, the daughter of a single mother, and an organizer, educator, and artist, I've learned that healing happens best within relationships. Whether it be our relationship to ourselves, our family, communities, or the earth; therapy is a place for us to explore how our relationships have shaped us, how we relate to the world around us, and to imagine what it means to live a life led by self-determination.
In my practice, I utilize the arts and pull from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), calling attention to our experience in our body (somatic experiencing) and to the systems around us. I have a special interest in working with youth and families who are impacted by incarceration, homelessness, immigration status, and/or who experience complex PTSD. I work within group and individual settings and am community oriented, seeking ways to connect people to communities as a tool for healing.
