Unlearning and unpacking unhealthy generational patterns.
The Honey, Education and Love (H.E.A.L) Unacademy is a collaboration with FLY (First Love Yourself) Radical Therapy and The Honeycomb Network that aims to center BIPOC youth and young adults to learn wellness education and practice. The pandemic has taken a toll on everyone, but the effects have disproportionately affected certain groups including young people who have had decreasing access to mental health services. The H.E.A.L Unacademy is a pilot workshop series to introduce the practice of wellness to empower youth to liberate their minds.
The cohort will invite 8 young people ages 16-19 years old at The Honeycomb Space to participate in the following 4-week commitment in April 2021. As part of completion of the program, the young person will be invited to be a H.E.A.L peer advocate for the next Fall 2021 series. The purpose is to expose youth to not only emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness education and practice, but also cultural, community and financial wellness. We want to encourage youth to build networks, to share, and carry on to their peer’s ways to practice and model wellness.
Each workshop will feature intentional pairings of a mental health professional to provide education on mental health and an instructor of a preventative wellness practice. Each youth will be sponsored to receive payment for their participation in this program. We plan to offer this program twice a year, we started this Spring and, again in the Fall. The H.E.A.L. Unacademy is intended to invest in the future emotional wellness of BIPOC youth. We would love for young people to return to The Honeycomb Network space to find community because they were seen, heard and valued.
This 4-week workshop series will use the First Love Yourself (FLY) Radical Therapy model of ways to maintain self-love while building a community of wellness and will consist of learning about communicating emotions, body awareness, ecological system pushes or pulls, and the spirit or intuition.
